🧶 1. What is a rug pull and how to spot one
When the people behind a coin take everyone's money and disappear.
- 🧶 A rug pull is when a coin's creators suddenly sell everything or drain the money pool. The price drops to almost zero in minutes.
- 🚩 Red flags: an anonymous team, a brand-new coin, huge promised returns, and most coins held by a few wallets.
- 🔒 Check if you can actually sell. Some scam coins let you buy but block selling.
- 🧠 Rule of thumb: if everyone is shouting "buy now before it's too late", slow down.
🎢 2. Pump and dump: why prices suddenly fly and crash
Hype pushes a price up so insiders can sell to latecomers.
- 📣 A group buys a cheap coin quietly, then hypes it on WhatsApp, Telegram and social media.
- 🚀 New buyers rush in and the price flies. That's the "pump".
- 💥 The group sells at the top. The price crashes and late buyers are left holding the bag. That's the "dump".
- ⏱️ If a coin is up hundreds of percent in hours with no real news, you are probably late.
⚖️ 3. What leverage (5x, 10x) really does and why it's risky
Leverage multiplies both wins and losses.
- ✖️ With 5x leverage, a 10% move becomes a 50% win or loss on your money. With 10x, it's 100%.
- 💀 At 10x, a 10% move against you can wipe out your whole stake. This is called liquidation.
- 📉 Crypto often moves 10% in a day, so high leverage can end your trade in hours.
- 🛡️ Most beginners who lose money with leverage lose it fast. Use small sizes and expect losses.
🚨 4. Common real crypto scams in Nigeria and Ghana
Fake investment platforms, "doubling" schemes and fake support agents.
- 🏦 Fake investment platforms show a growing balance on a website, but you can never withdraw — or they ask for "fees" first.
- ✌️ "Send 1 and get 2 back" doubling schemes only pay early people with newer people's money, then collapse.
- 🎧 Fake support agents message you first on WhatsApp or Telegram. Real support never asks for your password, PIN or recovery phrase.
- 📞 Check if a company is registered with the SEC Nigeria or SEC Ghana before sending any money.
- 🙅 Guaranteed daily profit is the clearest sign of a scam. Real markets go up and down.
🏛️ 5. How stock exchanges work (NGX and GSE basics)
Where shares of real companies are bought and sold.
- 🏛️ A stock exchange is a regulated market where people buy and sell shares — small pieces of ownership in companies.
- 🇳🇬 The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) lists companies like banks, telecoms and cement makers in Lagos.
- 🇬🇭 The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) in Accra lists companies like MTN Ghana and major banks.
- 🧑💼 You trade through a licensed stockbroker. Prices move with company results and demand.
